Ronald Epstein, associate professor and director of predoctoral programs in the Department of Family Medicine, and Peter Papadakos, associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, were recently selected for inclusion in The Best Doctors in America: 1999 Edition. Epstein also received a Fulbright Senior Lecturer's Award in Barcelona, Spain, as advisor to the Catalan government on improving patient/physician communication.
The 1998 Strong Memorial Hospital Quality Achievement Awards have been presented to Robert Holloway, assistant professor in the Department of Neurology's Community and Preventative Medicine unit; Carolyn Sammann, clinical associate in the School of Nursing; and Marianne Tracy, senior analyst-programmer in the Information Systems Division.
Lowell Goldsmith, dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry and a professor in the Department of Dermatology, has been honored with the 1999 Stephen Rothman Memorial Award by the Society for Investigative Dermatology, its highest honor.
M.W. Anders, chairman of the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology and the Lewis Pratt Ross Professor, has been awarded the 1999 Bernard B. Brodie Award in Drug Metabolism by the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.
Harry Sax, associate professor in the Department of Surgery, has received the Stanley J. Dudrick Research Scholar Award, the top award from the American Society for Perenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
Michael Schell, director of Medical Physics, a unit of Radiation Oncology, has been appointed a fellow in the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.
The Medical Center's Chairman's Quality Award--which recognizes employees whose professional and personal standards exemplify quality patient care--has been given to four employees: Alberta Miller, patient unit secretary; Michael Arena, registered respiratory care practitioner; Joseph Delehanty, assistant professor in the Department of Cardiology and director of Strong's Cardiovascular Center; and Craig Weise, registered nurse in the Emergency Department.
Emily Wiley, a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Biology, has been elected as a fellow of the Society for Values in Higher Education.
Jack Kampmeier, professor in the Department of Chemistry, has been named one of the 1999 recipients of the Chemical Manufacturers Association's "Responsible Care" National Catalyst Award for Excellence in Teaching.
