The last of the card catalogs draws near
L ast year at this time, Rush Rhees Library announced that the subject card catalog would be removed at the end of the spring semester as the first stage of total removal. It's now time for the second and last stage. During the first week of June, the cards will be removed from the 3,168 drawers of the old author-title card catalog for recycling. As soon as the cards are out the cabinets will be removed. Tables will be moved into the room shortly thereafter and it will become a reading room.
Once again, members of the University community are being offered the opportunity to take cards or sections of cards to keep as a valuable reference or record before the remainder are recycled. To do so, notify Frank Sadowski of the Catalog Department (x5-4496 or franks@RCL.LIB.rochester.edu) and he will in turn follow up with a pickup date. The library asks that people do not remove any cards until they have been notified. (Remember, no cards have been added to the card catalog since September 1, 1990.)
