United Way campaign raises $675,000
T he University's 1999 United Way campaign will go in the record books as its most successful to date, organizers said recently.
"This has been our best ever at the University in terms of dollars raised, percent participation, and the number of new donors," said coordinator Lenora Colaruotolo.
University employees contributed $675,000, up from $630,000 last year, a 7 percent increase. More than a third of the employees, 34.5 percent, gave to the campaign; 1,318 donors gave for the first time.
The University's "best ever" campaign reflects the success of the United Way of Greater Rochester's communitywide campaign, which concluded its 1999 season by reaching the highest goal in its 81-year history: $39.5 million.
"Again this year, we played a key role in the larger campaign's success," Colaruotolo said. "The University's participation and dollars raised climb higher every year, and this is a great statement about the University's role as a community leader."
