Physicist awarded two honorary degrees
E mil Wolf, Wilson Professor of Optical Physics and professor of optics at the College, has been chosen to receive honorary doctorates from the University of Franche Comté in France and Aalborg University in Denmark.

WolfWolf is an expert on the behavior and physics of light. His research has contributed to several fields, including holography, laser science, medical imaging, cryptography, the search for long-buried dinosaurs, and even our understanding of the universe.
He is particularly well known for the book, Principles of Optics, which he wrote with Nobel laureate Max Born (the seventh edition will be published this fall). Wolf is at work on a third book pulling together his more than five decades of research. Wolf's research has been continuously funded by at least one of several government agencies since he arrived at the University in 1959.
The recent awards bring to seven the number of honorary degrees Wolf has received. He has been similarly recognized by universities in England, Canada, Scotland, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic.
