UTD gives phone training progress report

R iver Campus telephone training was completed in June. Anyone at the River Campus who still needs to attend telephone and voice mail training can sign up for the Medical Center sessions.

The one-hour hands-on training sessions at URMC began on Monday, August 9, and will continue until Friday, August 27, in Helen Wood Hall, rooms 112, 118, and 211. Everyone is encouraged to attend. Packets of telephone training information were mailed to URMC telephone department coordinators (TDCs) on Friday, July 17. Those who did not receive a telephone training information packet should contact the UTD switch project assistant at switch@utd.rochester.edu.

Day and evening sessions were chosen randomly for departments in order to stagger training for the 10,000-plus personnel. Any questions about training should be directed to the department TDC. Those who were not contacted to sign up for training may contact UTD to get the name of their department TDC.

URMC training is scheduled during telephone parallel service. Parallel service, taking place at URMC only, is having the old ROLM phone and the new NEC phone available at employees' desks or workstations. During the phase-in period of the new phone system, if a call is sent via a ROLM phone, the employee's ROLM phone will ring; likewise with an NEC phone. This procedure will continue until the new NEC phones are installed in all departments. When the switchover is complete, the old ROLM phones will be disconnected and picked up by UTD. If specialized training is needed in certain areas of a department, contact the TDC.

The 30-minute automatic call distribution (ACD) training classes will be held separately during the week of Monday, August 23, through Friday, August 27, in Helen Wood Hall, room 211. Information packets and training schedule grids were mailed to departments that use ACD on Wednesday, July 28. Those departments that did not receive an information packet should contact the UTD switch project assistant at switch@utd.rochester.edu or x5-9506.

In addition to the training sessions, a telephone training video will be aired on the Staff Education Network at URMC from Monday, August 16, to Thursday, September 30. For River Campus incoming students, the training video will be aired on CC-TV from Wednesday, September 1, to Thursday, September 30.

Further information will be available at UTD's open house at URMC on Tuesday, September 14, in the Ambulatory Care Facility, room A, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and on Thursday, September 16, in Anderson Room G-8534, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives from NEC will be there to answer questions, discuss parallel service, and review features on the new phone system. The new phones will be available to preview. All are welcome.
