Interfaith Chapel names a new priest

T he Chaplain's Office has announced the appointment by Bishop Matthew Clark of the Rev. Brian Cool as the new chaplain for the Catholic Newman Community on the River Campus.

Father Cool, who came to the University in July, was previously co-pastor of St. Michael's Church in Penn Yan and St. Andrew's in Dundee, and also worked as Catholic chaplain at Keuka College near Penn Yan. An advocate of community service, Father Cool has extensive experience working with area high school students, conducting services, and developing retreat programs.

Here at Rochester he plans to organize a community outreach to both Catholics and non-Catholics. For example, he's looking into holding a weeknight candlelight mass so students can come together for fellowship and prayer. Father Cool said he wants to draw more students, especially graduate students, into the Newman Community on campus. Overall, he said, he wants to offer University students a memorable church experience: "I'm trying to provide an upbeat and spiritual community."

Father Cool is from Auburn and is an alumnus of Nazareth College of Rochester. He earned his Master of Divinity degree at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore.
