50 or more guests? Call Conference and EventsI nviting a sizable group of visitors to campus poses special challenges. The logistical arrangements can enhance or ruin the visitors' stay on campus (and their impression of the University) regardless of the topic or objectives of that particular event. With that in mind, all River Campus departments--regardless of functional unit (school, college, administrative area)--are required to notify and review plans with the Conference and Events Office of any scheduled function involving more than 50 visitors to the River Campus, say Provost Charles Phelps and Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Richard Miller, Jr. The Conference and Events Office will review the nature of the event and plans that have been made, and, at its sole discretion, will determine what further services need to be offered by the appropriate University service department to ensure the success of the event. All charges from Conference and Events, or other service-providing offices, will be borne by the sponsoring organization. Adherence to this policy will ensure that events on the River Campus involving outside participants are properly coordinated and are conducted in a first-class manner, Phelps and Miller noted in a memo to River Campus deans and directors. Exceptions to this policy will be granted only by the provost.
