The slogan for our 150th year--"celebrate the past, imagine the future"--aptly defines our special focus. Not only is it the Sesquicentennial of our founding, it is the 100th anniversary of the admission of women (due, of course, to the persistence of Susan B. Anthony) and the 75th anniversary of the Medical Center. Alumni "birthday parties" are being held throughout the year in 16 cities across the country. A weekend of blockbuster events, constituting a "super reunion weekend," is scheduled for the River Campus during the October 12-15 weekend. Furthermore, the Medical Center will hold its own series of events to mark the 75th anniversary there. It's easy enough to examine the roots and origins of the University of Rochester--to plainly see a fledgling school dedicated to the education of young men for the benefit of Rochester (which, as our permanent home, remains important to us today!). But where will we be 150 years from now? The details are anyone's guess. But I would safely predict that our successors--faculty, students, staff, alumni--will exhibit the foresight, ingenuity, and inventiveness to ensure our continuing role as one of the nation's distinguished institutions of higher education. Join us this year in celebrating our past and imagining our future!
