Time Team wins Best Practices Award

The Time Team
RIGHT ON TIME--The Time Team poses for a proud moment. Back row, left to right: John Stevens, installer-programmer; Kevin Hammon, interface specialist-programmer; Joe Parker, infrastructure lead--database administrator; and Jay Riley, production support--programmer. Front row, left to right: Julie Buehler, project manager; Lisa Hitchcock, badge-reader coordinator; Chris Chodak, payroll lead; and Missa Matte, rule configuration specialist-programmer.

K ronos, Inc. recently awarded the University Time Management System Team a 1999 Best Practices Award for "exceptional creativity in the implementation and management of change" for the badge-reader phase of the University's time management project.

Kronos recognized the team for its user support, including the project Web pages (located at www.uis.rochester.edu/acs/tms.htm), use of demo software, training classes, and time system hot line. The team also was acknowledged for technical excellence in the design and implementation of Kronos and PeopleSoft payroll system interfaces, and its use of database tools.

The Time Team successfully met the implementation challenges of a diverse customer base, complex work rules, and many users spread across a wide geographic area. The new system replaces the University's ReportXpress and OTIS-Nursing, which are non-Y2K-compliant time systems.

As a result of the Time Team's implementation, more than 4,500 hourly employees now swipe in and out on the new badge-reader system. Administrators review, edit, and approve electronic time cards, and the approved time data is then sent electronically to the University's payroll system.
