Chase Corporate Challenge team forms
by Jason Hobler, CCC team captain and lab engineer, Laboratory for Laser Energetics
n June 1 at 7 p.m., Highland Park will be transformed into an arena hosting the area's premiere fitness event. Runners and walkers from Rochester's corporate and educational institutions, including the University, will compete with their fellow coworkers in the Chase Corporate Challenge.

WINNING SPIRIT--Employees from the Laboratory for Laser Energetics were among the University/Strong Health team members who enjoyed the post-race festivities in Highland Park last year. Back row, left to right: Per Adamson, James Eichinger, Kara Millonzi, Patrick Wall, Jason Hobler, and Mark Bonino. Front row, left to right: Robert Rombaut, Todd Safford, and George Gerspacher.
The 3.5-mile road race was started by Chase Manhattan Bank as a way to promote fitness and teamwork among local companies and educational institutions. Races like it are held annually in various cities across the country and have become increasingly popular within the last few years. Last year the local race attracted approximately 5,500 people from over 267 local businesses and institutions, with most entering just for the enjoyment of the event. In fact, many participants even choose to leisurely walk the course.
Last year also saw the combined University/Strong Health team do very well in the overall standings. Of the competitive runners, the men's team placed eighth out of 153 teams and the women's team placed second out of 110 teams.
To celebrate Rochester's Sesquicentennial, this year's team is striving to recruit more employees from all branches of the University and is eagerly anticipating a record attendance.
To be eligible for this event you must be employed by the University and work a minimum of 25 hours per week for at least three months prior to June 1. There will be room for all levels of ability. If you are interested in being a part of this year's race, have any questions, or wish to help organize and/or recruit, call x5-5485 or send e-mail to jhob@lle.rochester.edu.
