U.S. News rates Rochester's graduate programs

University programs in music, political science, economics, medicine, business, and engineering are among those listed in a variety of top graduate and professional rankings in the April 10 issue of U.S. News & World Report.

In the magazine's cover story on "America's Best Graduate Schools," the master of music program at the Eastman School was ranked first. Among musical specialties, composition was rated first; conducting was first; jazz was second; opera/voice was fourth; orchestra/symphony was second; and piano/organ/keyboard was second.

The College's Ph.D. program in political science was rated 10th overall and sixth for American politics. The doctoral program in economics was listed 14th.

The School of Medicine and Dentistry was ranked 28th overall among medical schools, and ranked 16th best among primary-care medical schools. In the master's/doctorate program in community health, Rochester held fifth place. The master's degree program in the School of Nursing was ranked 36th.

The School of Engineering and Applied Sciences was ranked 44th. The Simon School was ranked 25th overall. In business specialties, the Simon School ranked 10th in quantitative analysis; 12th in finance; 15th in accounting; 20th in management information systems; and 22nd in production/operations management.
