Watts receives accounting-educator award


Watts

Ross Watts, William H. Meckling Professor of Business Administration, professor of accounting, and Ph.D. program chairman at the Simon School, has been named one of two Outstanding Accounting Educators for 2000 by the American Accounting Association.

A Simon School faculty member since 1971, Watts is internationally recognized and respected in academia and the accounting field. He is a founding editor of the highly ranked Journal of Accounting and Economics (with Jerold Zimmerman) and founding director of the electronic Accounting Research Network. His book, Positive Accounting Theory (co-authored with Zimmerman), received the Alpha Kappa Psi Foundation Award for Distinguished Service and Achievement in Accounting in 1985.

In 1996, Watts received Rochester's University Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching for his contributions to the Simon School Ph.D. program. His recent research includes papers on corporate financial and compensation policy, top management turnover, lawsuits against audit firms, the internal organizations of firms, and the accounting accrual process.
