United Way campaign raises $705,800

The University's 2000 United Way campaign will go in the record books as its most successful to date, organizers said recently.

"This has been our best ever at the University in terms of dollars raised and the number of new donors," said coordinator Lenora Colaruotolo.

University employees contributed $705,800 as of May 15, up from $680,000 last year, a 3.8 percent increase. Almost one-third of the employees, 32.4 percent, gave to the campaign; 1,250 donors gave for the first time.

Colaruotolo expressed her hopes that the University's record-breaking campaign will mirror the success of the United Way of Greater Rochester's community-wide campaign, which has yet to finish its 2000 season by reaching the greatest goal in its 82-year history: $41 million.

"We play a key role in the larger campaign's success," Colaruotolo stated. "The University's dollars raised climb higher every year, and this is a great statement about the University's role as a community leader."
