Merger set for two organization staffs

"The name change to the Purchasing organization is not just for the sake of change; it is being done to incorporate what the organization does and will do more strategically in the future," said Roach. "Purchasing incorporates not just the transactional activity of procuring products and services, but includes supply chain management, supplier relationship development, and contract management. These are the activities that the group is working very diligently on enhancing and improving."

The merger of the two organization staffs is being done to help gain operational efficiencies within the group. No significant physical relocation of personnel or offices is anticipated at this time, and there is no intent to change any budgetary or accounting activities within the groups. The combining of the organizations is intended to gain better synergies based on the common nature of business between the two organizations, Roach said. Particularly, gains are being focused in the areas of common policies, procedures, and practices.

"Opportunities for sharing lessons learned and best practices in terms of contract management, supplier relationship development, and problem solving can only be enhanced by having the two staffs working and coordinating more closely the efforts in these areas," said Roach.

More details about the merger of the two organizations will be communicated by Purchasing as the process evolves.
