Medical professorship honors Paul Fine
ith a gift from Dorris Carlson and the Chester and Dorris Carlson Charitable Trust, the University is honoring an internist and faculty member by creating the Paul H. Fine, M.D. Professorship in Medicine.
A University alumnus, Fine received his bachelor's degree in 1957, his M.D. in 1961, and completed his residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in 1965. In 1967 he helped to establish one of the community's most active private practices: the Olsan Medical Group. For many years while he served as a senior-attending physician at the Genesee Hospital, he continued to teach medical students as a clinical associate professor of the University. Fine is a fellow in the American College of Physicians and has long been recognized as a gifted educator. For six years he held the Lawrence A. Kohn Senior Teaching Fellowship at Rochester. In addition, Fine has served on the boards of both Preferred Care and ViaHealth. He is a past president of the Genesee Hospital medical staff and served as president of the Rochester Society of Internal Medicine. At SMD, Fine has been a member of the Alumni Council and the Trustees Council. Fine was honored at a reception on May 18 at the Medical Center.
