Construction, event impact River Campus

Gleason Hall, the addition to Schlegel Hall, is now under construction and will be through July 1, 2001. As a result, the Dewey Lot (part of Zone 1A) will be utilized as a construction area for the duration of the project for all but handicapped-permit holders. During the week of July 10, removable bollards will be installed to block off Hutchison Road directly after Hopeman Dock. Construction vehicles and Zone 1A handicapped-permit holders will be able to reach Dewey Lot by taking Wilson Boulevard to Hutchison Road. All other River Campus parkers will need to use Trustee Road to access other River Campus parking areas. Traffic to the Gavett and Wilmot Lots will have access to Hutchison Road from Intercampus Drive. For more information, call Paul Tankel, x5-0936, or e-mail paul@facilities.rochester.edu.

In addition, the Friends General Conference (FGC) will be held on the River Campus through Saturday, July 8. Approximately 2,000 people will be utilizing the classroom and meeting spaces on campus, as well as many of the dorm rooms. The purpose of this conference is to provide Friends (Quakers) the opportunity to gather and worship, as has been their annual tradition for the past century.

Both Danforth and Douglass Dining Halls will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Traffic onto campus will be increased by about 700 cars, which will be parked in Hill Court, River, and Wilson North Lots.

Classroom and meeting space will be used in Wilson Commons; the Interfaith Chapel; the Hylan Building; the Computer Studies Building; Strong Auditorium; and Bausch & Lomb, Dewey, Lattimore, Morey, Meliora, Hoyt, Gavett, Harkness, and Hutchison Halls. Signs will be set up to direct event participants to rooms.

For more information about the FGC, call the Conference and Events Office, x5-4111.
