Vice president for investments is named

Phillips
Phillips

Douglas Phillips, treasurer of Williams College, has been named the University's vice president for investments. He will oversee the investment program for an endowment that totals $1.2 billion as of June 30, 2000.

Edmund Hajim, trustee and chair of the Board of Trustees' Investment Committee, said that Phillips "fits the job at Rochester perfectly."

After four years as manager of investment administration at Princeton University, Phillips joined Williams College in 1986 as assistant comptroller, becoming associate treasurer in 1994 and treasurer in 1998. At Williams he has worked closely with the college's Board of Trustees' Finance Committee. During his career there he has helped to take the endowment and similar funds from $200 million in 1986 to approximately $1.5 billion today. The endowment performance record has been one of the best among institutions in higher education.

Phillips, who starts at Rochester in October, holds a B.A. from Rutgers University and an M.B.A. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Phillips succeeds Richard Greene, who is retiring after 14 years with the University. Greene's career also included posts as treasurer and chief financial officer of the Carnegie Corp. of New York and vice president and treasurer at Wesleyan University.
