Staff orientation program expanded

An expanded orientation program for new employees will be implemented on Monday, September 11. The redesign is, in part, a result of an increase in information required by governing agencies such as New York State, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Other contributing factors were the input that has been received from satisfaction surveys and the addition of a mandatory two-and-a-half-hour customer service program for Medical Center staff.

Attendance times will vary depending on which University department the new staff member has been hired for. In general, employees who interact with patients or have access to patient information will attend orientation all day on Monday plus a half-day on Tuesday. All other employees will attend orientation in two half-day sessions, Monday and Tuesday. Human Resources will continue to coordinate orientation sign-up.
