Professor receives award from alma mater

he Indian Institute of Technology has conferred its Distinguished Alumni Award this year upon Govind Agrawal, professor at the Institute of Optics. He accepted the award in Delhi, India, on August 12.

Agrawal won his award for his work on solitons, a kind of light pulse that can travel down optical fibers without diffusing, and a device that can change the wavelength of light in optical networks without losing any information.

Agrawal joined the Institute of Optics in 1989.
