ESM exhibit honors photographer Ouzer
new exhibit featuring works by Rochester photographer Louis Ouzer is on display this fall at the Eastman School's Sibley Music Library. An Eastman Portrait: Through the Eyes of Louis Ouzer is open to the public during regular library hours through Friday, December 15.
The exhibit features 20 historic, candid views of ESM faculty, staff, and students selected from the thousands of black-and-white images Ouzer has taken during the past several decades. The entire collection of prints and negatives was acquired by ESM earlier this year and now forms the Louis Ouzer Archives, housed in Sibley's Special Collections. (For more information about the acquisition and Ouzer, refer to the story that appeared in the February 21 issue of Currents by checking out the Web site at www.rochester.edu/pr/Currents/V28/V28N04/story07.html.) Ouzer, 86, has spent most of his life chronicling the Eastman and Rochester communities. His subjects include music legends, ESM students and faculty, local landmarks, historic events, and everyday activities. Hundreds of the world's most famous musicians and luminaries in other fields have passed in front of his lens. Today, along with his regular studio work, Ouzer is involved in writing music and cataloging his photo collection. For library hours, see the Currents calendar.
