Medical plans, FSA's taking enrollments

The annual open enrollment period for the University Medical Plans and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Program for the calendar year 2001 is currently being held.

At this time, regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff may choose to change their medical coverage to another plan. Also, those who are not currently enrolled in a medical plan may elect to join one.

In addition, eligible employees may choose to participate in the FSA program for 2001. To participate for 2001, you must enroll, even if you are currently participating.

Information announcing the open enrollment has been mailed to the homes of all eligible faculty and staff.

Blue Choice Value and Preferred Care Community are two additional HMO plans that are being offered effective January 1, 2001. Also, ViaHealth Select with Extended Benefits will no longer be offered as a medical plan option effective January 1, 2001. (Those currently enrolled in ViaHealth Select with Extended Benefits must select another medical plan in order to have medical coverage with the University in 2001).

Included in the open enrollment package is a schedule of Open Enrollment Informational/Enrollment Sessions. At these sessions, representatives from the insurance carriers and the Benefits Office will be available for questions concerning the options available for 2001. (Please see Schedule of Medical Plans Informational/Enrollment Sessions.)

Enrollment forms for the medical plans and/or FSA's must be received in the Benefits Office by Thursday, December 21, for the January 1 effective date.

You may drop off your forms at any of the sessions or at the Benefits Office, G-8011 in the Medical Center. You also may send your forms via inter-office mail to the Benefits Office, Box 636.

For additional information, please call the Benefits Office at x5-3779 or x5-4636, or visit the Web site
