Professor's book is triple winner
Last month, he received the 2000 V. O. Key Award from the Southern Political Science Association. Earlier in the year, Something Within received the 1999 Outstanding Book Award from the National Conference of Black Political Scientists, and the 2000 Distinguished Book Award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion. Something Within explores how Christianity promotes the political activism of African Americans, illustrating through statistical data and pointed anecdotes the importance of the church in the politics of the African-American community. Harris's teaching and research focus on American politics, political participation, social movements, African-American politics, and cross-national studies in race and politics. He received his doctorate from Northwestern University, and he joined the Department of Political Science at Rochester in 1994.
