Yellowjacket Day joins Convocation
This year marks the fourth presentation of the Goergen Awards, recognizing contributions to undergraduate education in the College. The awards are named for and sponsored by Robert Goergen '60, chairman of the Board of Trustees, and his wife, Pamela. (See Teachers, departments get Goergen Awards.) The official Convocation ceremony to welcome freshmen and new and returning students at the beginning of the academic year starts at noon. It will be followed by a picnic on Wilson Commons Lawn for students, faculty, and staff in the College. Yellowjacket Day, with activities scheduled for 1-8 p.m., features carnival rides, novelties, student performances, food, and music, with a live band performance scheduled for 6 p.m. The Activities Fair, which showcases student clubs and organizations, moves outside to the newly constructed Dandelion Square and takes place from 3-5 p.m.
