IT strategic planning begins

Emphasizing the importance of coordinated technology directions at the University, the Information Technology Council (ITC) formally launched a new strategic planning initiative on January 4.

At the direction of President Jackson and Provost Charles Phelps, the council, led by Amelia Tynan, chief information officer, was formed last November. The council is charged with developing a coordinated approach to technology that supports Rochester's combination of top-notch research and instruction in a residential environment.

The initial phase of the ITC planning process is under way with a first targeted milestone of a draft IT plan by May 2001.

Council members include faculty, administrators, staff, and students.
