United Way: Giving and receiving
![]()
Lenora Colaruotolo, coordinator of United Way programs at the University, says campus programs often receive more in United Way funding than the University campaign generates. Last year's University campaign raised $715,000 for the United Way of Greater Rochester, Colaruotolo says. At the same time, University-affiliated programs received $1,179,920 in United Way funding last year. The programs include: Mount Hope Family Center: $285,560. Primary Mental Health Project: $305,950. Rochester Early Enhancement Project (a collaborative of 15 organizations, which includes two University-affiliated programs--Primary Mental Health Project and Baby Love): $390,038. Early Intervention Program: $98,585. PMHP-Middle School Core Measures Project: $50,000. Strong Memorial Hospital (individual designations): $49,787. Total: $1,179,920. This year's campaign kicked off February 13 and runs through March 30. Colaruotolo says the University programs are just a sampling of the hundreds of programs the United Way of Greater Rochester supports across its seven-county service area. United Way service providers received 811,055 calls for help last year. "We ask that you please consider a donation to this year's campaign," Colaruotolo says. "Your gift helps us all 'Take care of our own.' " For more information, contact the United Way Hotline at x3-4756.
