Auchincloss elected physics fellow

P
Auchincloss

Priscilla Auchincloss, a senior lecturer in the College and a research associate in experimental particle physics, has been named a fellow of the American Physical Society, an honor that goes to less than one-half of 1 percent of the membership of the organization.

Auchincloss, who joined the Department of Physics and Astronomy in 1989, also serves as dean for sophomores and directs the Program for Women in Science and Engineering (WISE).

The WISE program, which includes a summer physics program for high school girls, a teaching internship program for College undergraduates, and a program providing summer research opportunities in physics for undergraduates, received the University's Goergen Award for Distinguished Contributions to Undergraduate Learning in the College in 1998.

Auchincloss joins four others at Rochester--physicists John H. Thomas, Stephen Teitel, and Stephen Craxton, and Professor of Optics Ian Walmsley--who were elected to fellowship positions in the society during the past academic year.
