African-American center convenes
The center, which opened this year under the direction of Fredrick Harris, associate professor of political science, focuses on interdisciplinary discussions among researchers who study African Americans in politics and society. "We hope to do for the study of African-American politics what our Department of History did for the study of American slavery, and what the Department of Political Science did for the study of positive political theory," says Harris. Titled "Theorizing Black Communities: New Frontiers in the Study of African-American Politics," the conference features a series of workshops at the Memorial Art Gallery. University faculty and students who wish to attend the workshops should contact Harris at fchs@troi.cc.rochester.edu.
