MAG MUMMY--A coffin of Pa-debehu-Aset, a 4th century B.C.E. Egyptian official, went on display at the Memorial Art Gallery on April 25 as part of the gallery's New Acquisitions for a New Millennium exhibition. The rare, highly decorated coffin is part of a 2,400-year-old pair--an inner and outer set--acquired by MAG last year. Only one other comparable set from the same period is known to exist. Director Grant Holcomb says the coffins are "two of the most significant acquisitions in the gallery's long history." |
