As of June 1, Vice President and University Dean of Students Paul Burgett will join the president's office with new titles and a new portfolio--as vice president and general secretary, senior advisor to the president, and University dean.

As general secretary, Burgett will have key responsibilities for board of trustees relations. He will also help to represent the president's office among the alumni and within the local community. "These are two arenas in which Paul is very well known," President Jackson said. "Decades of alumni, from all academic divisions, know Dean Burgett and will be delighted to have any and all opportunities to visit with him again. He is also deeply involved in a variety of community matters and widely respected by our off-campus friends and colleagues."

Burgett has been vice president and chief student affairs officer since 1987 and is also adjunct professor of music in the College's music department. He had been dean of students at the University's Eastman School of Music from 1981 to 1987 and also has served as executive director of Hochstein Music School and on the music faculty of Nazareth College. He holds his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in music education from the Eastman School.

The offices of dean of students, residential life, and Wilson Commons, as well as the department of athletics and recreation, will now become an integral part of the College's organizational structure.

"This arrangement formalizes longstanding close working relationships between Student Affairs and the College," says Thomas LeBlanc, vice provost and Robert L. and Mary L. Sproull Dean of the College Faculty. "I have asked William Scott Green, dean of the College, to take management responsibility for these new members of the College's team. Under his leadership, this integration will enable the College to work more effectively and efficiently than ever in producing a first-rate residential education for Rochester's students." Green will work directly with Jackson on issues of undergraduate life that require University attention.

Associate Vice President and River Campus Dean of Students Mary-Beth Cooper will become dean of students in the College and associate provost for student services. As dean of students, she will be the chief student-affairs officer for the College and will be responsible to the dean of the college.

As associate provost, she will oversee University Health Services, International Services Office, and the Interfaith Chapel, all of which serve a University-wide constituency, and she will coordinate graduate housing available to students of multiple University divisions. In these capacities, she will report to Provost Charles Phelps through LeBlanc.
