Summer construction at River Campus
ummer doesn't only mean the advent of foliage and warm weather; it also forecasts the arrival of cranes and hard hats on the River Campus. Planning and Project Management has several construction projects planned this summer, including:
- Renovation of the bookstore in Frederick Douglass Hall will include a major reconfiguration of the existing space and a return to the entrance on Dandelion Square. The work will start in early June and be complete by late July. The bookstore will remain open during the renovation.
- The stairs between Lattimore Hall and Strong Auditorium will be reconstructed to provide stairs and an accessible ramp to the Eastman forecourt. The construction will begin after Commencement and continue through August. The area will not be accessible during the work.
- The deteriorated brick pavers throughout the Graham Smith Plaza will be removed and replaced with paving blocks. The work will begin immediately after Commencement and be completed in early July.
- The skylight over the grand stairs in Rush Rhees Library will be replaced in June and July, requiring the placement of a crane between the library and Meliora Hall.
- Renovation of suites on four floors of Wilder Hall to accommodate the needs of special interest housing will result in the hall's being closed this summer.
- The existing fire alarm system in Bausch & Lomb Hall will be replaced, and other alterations will be made to accommodate ADA requirements. Due to construction of a ramp at the Eastman Quad entrance, that entrance will be inaccessible during construction.
- Construction of Gleason Hall will continue throughout the summer with completion scheduled for the end of August.
- Construction also will take place within Hutchison Hall, Harkness Hall, Rush Rhees Library, and Wilson Commons. The work includes renovation of office and lab space and the installation of a fire pump in Wilson Commons.
