United Way raises record $752,352

The University's 2001 United Way campaign will go in the record books as its most successful to date, organizers said last week.

"This campaign has been our best ever at the University in terms of dollars raised and the number of new donors," said coordinator Lenora Colaruotolo.

University employees contributed $752,352. That's a 5.2 percent increase over the $715,000 raised last year. More than a third of employees, 33.7 percent, gave to the campaign; 1,256 donors gave for the first time.

Colaruotolo said she hopes the University's record-breaking campaign will be mirrored by the success of the United Way of Greater Rochester's community-wide campaign, which has yet to finish its 2001 season by reaching the highest goal in the organization's 83-year history: $38 million.

"We play a key role in the larger campaign's success," Colaruotolo said. "The dollars raised at the University climb higher every year, and this is a great statement about the University's role as a community leader."
