University scientists win Sloans
wo medical center scientists have been awarded Alfred P. Sloan research fellowships. They will receive $40,000 in research funds.
Edward Freedman, an assistant professor in the Department of Neurobiology and Anatomy and a member of the Center for Visual Science, was cited for his research in how the brain controls the coordination of our eyes, head and neck. In one research project he is looking for ways to diagnose Parkinson's disease earlier, before the brain cells in a particularly vital area have already died.
