Finance scholar receives professorship
the Simon School, has been named Fred H. Gowen Professor of Business Administration. The announcement of Warner's appointment was made by Simon School Dean Charles Plosser, who said: "Professor Warner is a nationally respected scholar whose pioneering work has made a major impact on empirical work in finance. He is eminently suited to hold the Gowen professorship." The professorship was established in 1980 in honor of the late Fred H. Gowen, former executive director of MacKay-Shields Financial Corporation of New York City and a trustee from 1968 until his death in 1978. Warner, who joined the Simon School faculty in 1976, has teaching and research interests in portfolio performance measurement, capital markets, and corporate finance and is an associate editor of the Journal of Financial Economics. He served as chairman of Simon's Ph.D. program from 1990 to 1996 and as coordinator of Simon's finance area from 1982 to 1986. Along with six other current Simon faculty members, Warner was identified in a recent study as one of the 100 most-cited researchers in finance journals.
