Psychologist elected to APA board
arry Reis, professor of psychology, has been elected to the Board of Scientific Affairs of the American Psychological Association, the group's highest policy-setting board for science. He will serve a three-year term.
Reis, a professor at the University since 1974, is known for his studies of everyday social interaction using event-sampling techniques. He is author or coauthor of more than 80 publications and has been awarded several federally funded research grants. The Board of Scientific Affairs acts as a liaison with agencies giving financial support to scientific projects. It is also responsible for awards and honors in recognition of scientific achievement and for seeking innovative ways to train new scientists and disseminate scientific knowledge. Reis currently serves as president of the International Society for the Study of Personal Relationships, which seeks to estabish the field of personal relationships within the scholarly community. In addition, he is executive officer of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology, a 3,500-member international organization headquartered in Rochester.
