Laser lab recognizes local teacher

The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) will honor Livonia high school teacher David Dussault with the 2001 William D. Ryan Inspirational Teacher Award. Each year a teacher is honored for encouraging a student in the LLE's Summer High School Research Program to study science, mathematics, or technology. Dussault, a mathematics and computer science teacher, was nominated by Michael Harvey, a participant in LLE's 1999 summer program.

The award, which includes a $1,000 prize, will be presented at the research program symposium held at LLE on August 29.

In addition 14 area high school students who spent eight weeks working on individual research projects supervised by LLE's scientific staff will present the results of their physics research at the symposium.

This is the 13th year of LLE's program, which is intended to give students opportunities to work in a modern research environment under realistic conditions
