Convocation kicks off the academic year

The College Convocation, scheduled for noon, Friday, September 7, on Dandelion Square, will include the presentation of the Goergen Awards for Contributions to Undergraduate Education in the College (see related story) and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly renovated River Campus bookstore, operated by Barnes & Noble, in the Frederick Douglass Building.

Convocation signals the start of the academic year and provides the opportunity for all undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff of the College to celebrate together.

Yellowjacket Day activities will immediately follow Convocation. A picnic for the College community will be held on the Wilson Commons lawn and will include carnival rides, novelties, student performances, and music.

The Activities Fair, which showcases student clubs and organizations, will be held on Dandelion Square from 3-5 p.m.

In case of rain, Convocation ceremonies will take place in Strong Auditorium, and the campus picnic will be held in Douglass Dining Center. Yellowjacket Day activities will move into Wilson Commons, and the Activities Fair will be held inside the Field House.
