Technology Transfer positions named

The Medical Center has appointed two senior executives to key technology transfer positions. Mark Scheuerman has been named president and chief executive officer of the Rochester Technology Transfer Corporation (RTTC), and Marjorie Hunter has been appointed director of the newly created Office of Technology Transfer at the Medical Center.

The mission of the not-for-profit RTTC is to help Medical Center researchers form new companies that will turn their discoveries into successful commercial products. Scheuerman and RTTC will assist researchers as they develop business plans, secure venture capital, and recruit seasoned management and technical personnel to help grow startup companies into successful commercial ventures.

In addition, the creation of the new Office of Technology Transfer at the Medical Center doubles the University's commitment to commercializing its researchers' inventions. The new office is responsible for managing the commercial aspects of intellectual property that is developed at the Medical Center. Hunter and her staff will assist researchers in obtaining patent protection for inventions and innovations developed at the Medical Center. The office will also advise researchers on how a new invention or innovation should be commercialized--whether it should be licensed to an existing company, or whether a new company should be formed to develop the technology into a commercial product.
