The 40th anniversary season of the Hyam Plutzik Memorial Poetry Series at the University presents published poet and professor Ellen Bryant Voigt. The state poet of Vermont, Voigt is scheduled to read from her works on Tuesday, October 30, at 8 p.m. in the Welles-Brown Room of Rush Rhees Library.

Voigt has been a National Endowment for the Arts and Guggenheim Fellow and, since 1981, has directed the M.F.A. Writing Program at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, N.C. Her published works include articles and poetry in The New Yorker, American Poetry Review, and The Atlantic Monthly. Author of five collections of poetry, her latest book, Kyrie, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her sixth volume of poetry, Shadow of Heaven, is expected to be released in February 2002.

The Plutzik Series is one of the country's oldest and most prestigious literary reading programs. Voigt is one of three poets invited for the series this fall.

For more information on the series, contact the Department of English at x5-4092.
