Series explores global conflict

TThe Department of Modern Languages and Cultures is organizing a series of events on global conflict including several roundtables and a film and speakers series that began in November and will continue in the coming months.

The next roundtable discussion features Kimberley Healey, assistant professor of French; Sharon Willis, professor of French; Randall Halle, assistant professor of German; and John Michael, associate professor of English, who will discuss "How to Wage a War" at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, in the Welles-Brown Room of Rush Rhees Library. The discussion will explore topics such as defining an enemy, national unity and the outbreak of war, censorship and information, and the experience of soldiers.

"There is clearly a need on campus and in the community in general to speak about the events of September 11 and their ramifications," says Halle.

The series is organized in coordination with the campus chapter of Amnesty International as well as other student groups. Programs are free and open to the public.

For more information, contact Randall Halle at x5-4273 or rhalle@mail.rochester.edu.
