Open enrollment for medical plans begins

The annual open enrollment period for the University's Medical Plans and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Program for the calendar year 2002 is currently being held. Regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff may choose to enroll in a medical plan or change current medical coverage. In addition, eligible employees may choose to participate in the FSA Program for 2002 by enrolling.

Information announcing the open enrollment for the medical plans and FSAs has been mailed to the home addresses of all eligible faculty and staff. Individuals are encouraged to read through the enrollment materials carefully to see how the current medical plans have changed and how plans compare to each other in order to select the plan that is most appropriate for the employee's current situation.

Preferred Care Opportunity is an additional HMO that is being offered effective January 1. StrongCare Select with Extended Benefits and StrongCare with University Major Medical will no longer be offered effective January 1. (Those currently enrolled in either plans must select another medical plan in order to have medical coverage with the University in 2002.)

Included in the open enrollment package is a schedule of Open Enrollment Informational/Enrollment Sessions. At these sessions, representatives from the insurance carriers and the Benefits Office will be present to answer questions concerning medical coverage options available for 2002. (See related story).

Enrollment forms for the Medical Plans and/or FSA's must be received in the Benefits Office by Tuesday, December 18, for the January 1 effective date. Employees may drop off forms at any of the sessions or at the Benefits Office, G-8011 in the Medical Center. Individuals also may send forms via inter-office mail to the Benefits Office, Box 636. For additional information, call the Benefits Office at x5-3779 or x5-4636.
