MAG anthology blends art and literature
Voices in the Gallery: Writers on Art is a full color, 182-page volume. The idea for the book was inspired by similar anthology published by the Art Institute of Chicago, which paired works in that collection with writings on art by poets and novelists. Holcomb, who has worked on the book for several years, began the project as a way to showcase the rich artistic and literary traditions of the region. Among the distinguished contributors to the new book are John Ashbery, poet and winner of numerous awards including the Pulitzer Prize; Andrea Barret, winner of the National Book Award for fiction; and Robert Creeley, the New York State poet from 1989-91 and member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. University faculty contributors include Anthony Hecht, former John H. Deane professor of Poetry and Rhetoric; Thomas Gavin, professor emeritus of English; Barbara Jordan, associate professor of English; James Longenbach, Joseph H. Gilmore Professor of English; Jarold Ramsey, professor emeritus of English; and Joanne Scott, the Roswell Smith Burrows Professor of English. Copies of the anthology are available in the Gallery Store. For additional information, call 473-7720, ext. 3057.
