Wilson Day teaches 'Service 101'
Through Wilson Day, the University recognizes the importance of service and uses the day's events to help freshmen bond with each other, their college, and the Rochester community. Matthew Moffa, a Take Five scholar from Ligonier, Pa., is Wilson Day coordinator. "Wilson Day makes a big difference to the agencies we serve, but it makes a bigger difference to us," says Moffa. "As any student who's survived a tough course knows, there's nothing like working on a common task to bring people together. Wilson Day unites new students, experienced RAs and D'Lions, faculty, staff, graduate students, and Rochester-area alumni. It's one of the best methods we have of building a campus community." More than 70 percent of Rochester undergraduates are involved in community service projects. The Community Service Network, an organization managed by students, coordinates mini-Wilson Days during the year, and matches individual students and campus groups with volunteer opportunities.
