The 'Greek' experience proves valuable

fratquad Fraternity Quadrangle is the center of Greek life

Greek-letter organizations have been part of student life at the University from the University's inception, 150 years ago. Nearly 24 percent of the current undergraduate population is affiliated with one of the 27 national sororities and fraternities represented on campus.

Involvement in a sorority or fraternity provides opportunities for personal and academic growth. Study programs, academic recognition, and awards encourage academic achievement. Campus and community service events encourage students to be aware of community needs, promoting good citizenship.

In the past year University Panhellenic groups have donated over $18,000 and provided over 3,000 hours of service to various national and local community organizations.

Social activities such as semi-formal dances and retreats focus on building lasting friendships among students. Involvement in individual and group development assists each member in improving interpersonal and leadership skills.

The University is committed to offering an enriching experience for fraternity and sorority members. For more information, contact the Office of Greek Affairs at x5-3167 (275-3167) or by e-mail at greek@ reslife.rochester.edu.
