HR outlines long-term disability benefits
he Office of Human Resources recently mailed a packet of information regarding the University's long-term disability (LTD) insurance plans, including enrollment materials, to those not enrolled in Full LTD coverage. Disability insurance is designed to replace a substantial part of lost income as well as contributions made to a retirement program if disability interrupts a faculty or staff member's earning ability. The following two levels of LTD protection are available:
- Limited LTD coverage provides income protection for 60 percent of covered annual salary up to $15,000. For full-time faculty and staff, Limited LTD is paid for entirely by the University. Part-time faculty and staff are required to pay the total premium.
- Full LTD coverage provides income protection for 60 percent of covered annual salary up to a maximum covered annual salary of $300,000. There is an additional charge for this optional coverage which is processed through paycheck deduction.
To apply for coverage, return both a completed LTD insurance form and an employee's statement of health form to the Benefits Office.
All levels of coverage are subject to eligibility requirements as outlined in the summary plan description at www.rochester.edu/working/employment/benefits/home.html.
