Get Degas tickets early

Beginning August 1, supporter level members of the Memorial Art Gallery may request two free tickets to the exhibition Edgar Degas: Figures in Motion, opening October 12.

For $80, supporters (individual or family/ dual) also receive two free tickets to each exhibition preview party, free general admission with three guest passes, discounts on purchases at the Gallery Store and Creative Workshop classes, and free subscriptions to member publications ARTiculate and MAGazine

Free clinic targets skin cancer

A free skin cancer detection clinic will be held at Strong Memorial Hospital's Dermatology outpatient area from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 4. Local dermatologists and nurses will conduct skin screenings to detect skin cancers, pre-cancerous conditions, and related problems.

The clinic is sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology, Rochester Dermatologic Society, and the Department of Dermatology. Contact Fran Parrish at x5-1976 for more information.

Picnic salutes survivors

Brain tumor survivors and their families, friends, and medical staff will celebrate Brain Tumor Awareness Week with a picnic from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Brighton Town Park. The event is sponsored by the Adult Brain Tumor Network at Strong Memorial Hospital, a support program for brain cancer survivors and their families. The theme is "Thriving and Surviving," and the event is cosponsored by the Network and the Brainstormers, a support group for parents.

Research Participants Needed:

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome--Adolescent girls, ages 12-18, who are overweight with irregular menstrual cycles due to polycystic ovary syndrome are needed for a 24-week study evaluating lifestyle changes and the use of medications. $400 payment. For more information, contact the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, x5-4149.

Soy Isoflavones--Healthy postmenopausal women, ages 45-65, without naturally occurring menses for 12 months, are needed for a 15-week study to evaluate the effects of soy isoflavones when taken in combination with hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

Participants must have a normal uterus and no contraindications to HRT. Current HRT users potentially eligible. Up to $350 payment. For more information, contact the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, x3- 2090.

Infertility--Couples with unexplained infertility who have been unable to conceive for at least one year and women who have been unable to conceive through donor insemination are needed for a clomiphene/Intrauterine Insemination for Infertility (IUI) research study to evaluate the difference in pregnancy rates resulting from two different methods of IUI timing. Requires women, between ages 18-42, with normal uterus and at least one fallopian tube for this 15-week study. Clomiphene, ovulation predictor kits, and the hormone hCG will be provided free.
