Cicchetti |
A paper coauthored by Dante Cicchetti, director of Mt. Hope Family Center and professor of psychology, of psychiatry, and of pediatrics, is one of the most highly cited papers in the fields of psychology and psychiatry, according to the Essential Science Indicator's list. Titled "The Construct of Resilience: A Critical Evaluation and Guidelines for Future Work," the paper was originally published in the May/June 2001 issue of Child Development.

Karel Alan deLeeuw has been appointed chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Department of Dentistry and chief of Dental and Oral Surgical Services at Strong Memorial Hospital. Prior to his appointment, deLeeuw was an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Texas Southwest Medical School and the chief financial officer of the University's Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Richardson |
Dionne Johnson Richardson, senior instructor in the Department of Dentistry, has been appointed to the newly created position of community liaison for oral health to strengthen and advance the department's community ties. Richardson will work with families, schools, community service agencies, and legislators to assess oral health needs in the community. She will also work with Strong Health leadership, the Project Believe committee, and community health representatives to strengthen the linkage with overall health.
Purvi Shah, a fellow in hematology/oncology department at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center, is one of four investigators chosen to participate in the "Young Investigators" Training Course. This program, sponsored by the Southwest Oncology Group--the largest cooperative research group supported by the National Cancer Institute--is designed to develop the specific skills investigators need to prepare and conduct cancer clinical trials.
At the opening of this year's Undergraduate Research and Creativity Conference in the College held April 4-5, four faculty members were honored by students as professors of the year. They are: Emil Homerin, Department of Religion and Classics; Barbara Illardi, Department of Clinical and Social Sciences in Psychology; Mark Bocko, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering; and H. Allen Orr, Department of Biology. More than 55 undergraduates nominated faculty members for the awards presented by the Students' Association.
