Fox named to University advancement post
Reporting to Senior Vice President for Institutional Resources Douglas Phillips, Fox will help to coordinate the efforts of the University's departments and schools in raising funds from corporations and private foundations. Fox also will have responsibilities in the University's development administration and stewardship programs and will serve as staff support to the Board of Trustees' Development Committee and to the trustees' Annual Fund campaign. "We are extremely fortunate to be able to welcome Rebecca Fox to our campus," Phillips said. "Her experienced leadership in higher education and her understanding of philanthropic activities are a natural fit for Rochester's development activities." Serving most recently as fellow at the Baltimore Community Foundation, where she worked on a number of educational projects, Fox was head of the Bryn Mawr School in Baltimore for six years and dean of William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y., for the previous 13 years. She holds bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. degrees from Bryn Mawr College, earning her graduate degrees in French literature. She also was awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 1995. The college's Women's Resource Center also was renamed in her honor in that year. She has served on the boards of The Wellness Community of Baltimore, Baltimore Hebrew University, Baltimore Education Scholarship Trust, and on the National Association of Independent Schools' Strategic Planning Working Group.
