MAKING IMPRESSIONS--Pierre-Auguste Renoir's The Pond at Chaville is one of 93 works included in Memorial Art Gallery's new exhibition Circa 1900: From the Genteel Tradition to the Jazz Age, on view through August 25. "Artists in the Garden." This self-guided tour includes eight private gardens, among them an oriental-style garden with teahouse and an environmentally friendly artist's garden, as well as the historic Ellwanger Garden. In addition, each garden will be the setting for demonstrations or displays by area artists. Tickets are required and are available at the admission desk or by calling 473-7720, ext. 3014. This exhibition features work by teen students at the Creative Workshop. June 16 & August 25--Circa 1900: From the Genteel Tradition to the Jazz Age. Beginning with the height of the Gilded Age, the exhibition offers works from the turn of the century and World War I and ends with the dawn of the Jazz Age. The 93 works include paintings by Cezanne, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Sargent; sculptures by Picasso, Matisse, and Saint-Gaudens; glass by Tiffany and Steuben; furniture by Frank Lloyd Wright; and photographs by Stieglitz, Steichen, and Kasebier. Showcases 21 masterworks acquired during the last four years, including the Inner Coffin of Pa-debehu-Aset, an Egyptian official of the fourth century B.C.E. Through 2003--About Face: Copley's Portrait of a Colonial Silversmith. An interactive installation about Colonial American portrait painter John Singleton Copley and silversmith Nathaniel Hurd. Michael O'Hara, University of Iowa, lectures on "Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Post-Partum Depression: A Longitudinal Perspective." O'Hara will describe the results of a community trial of Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) with postpartum depressed women and an 18-month followup of these women.
