Sculptor wins Fairchild award

Sculptor Lawrence Williams has been named the recipient of the Lillian Fairchild Award administered by the University. The annual award is presented to a Rochester-area resident who has produced the best visual, literary, or musical work of art. Williams was cited for his sculpture "Sledges and Piers: Water and Ice."

The Fairchild Award was established by Herman L. Fairchild of the University's Department of Geology in memory of his daughter, an accomplished designer who died of tuberculosis at age 32. The first award was given in 1924.

June 1: Stroll for Strong Kids

The annual Stroll for Strong Kids will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at Genesee Valley Park. People of all ages are invited to participate in the scenic two-mile walk. Proceeds from the event benefit Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong.

The event will include children's activities, free lunch from Outback Steakhouse, and a concert by Gary the Happy Pirate. Participants raise money through sponsorship pledges, and prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers in each age group. Sign-in and activities start at 9 a.m.; the walk starts at 11 a.m. Pre-registration is required. To register and obtain pledge forms or to learn more, call x3-5948.

Family Care offers day camp

Family Care is sponsoring Camp Fire Kids Klub, a traveling summer day camp. That includes 10 weekly sessions beginning Monday, June 24, and ending Friday, August 30. There will be weekly themes, and activities will include games, arts and crafts, swimming, and field trips. Kid's Klub will be held in Spurrier Gym from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is available for children of University employees ages 5-12. For young people ages 13-16, a counselor-in-training program will be offered. Registration forms are available through Family Care at x3-4644.

Event addresses genetic issues

A symposium on genetic privacy and discrimination will take place June 14-15 at the Medical Center. The event includes scholarly presentations by experts in a variety of disciplines including medicine, genetics, ethics, law, and public policy. The goal of the symposium is to develop specific recommendations for research and generate data and new knowledge as the basis for sound public policies. Lace up and take the challenge

All full-time employees are invited to sign up for the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge. Run or walk the 3.5-mile course around Highland Park on Thursday, May 30, at 7:15 p.m. Registration packets are available at the Medical Center Athletic Club and the Goergen Athletic Center. Summer hours begin

The River Campus Customer Service Center/ ID Office has begun operating on its summer schedule. The hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The center will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Research participants needed:

Common Cold--Volunteers with active cold symptoms are needed for a research study of an investigational medication for the common cold. Volunteers must be seen within 24 hours of the beginning of symptoms. The study requires six visits to the clinic. Volunteers must be otherwise healthy and between the ages of 18-70. Compensation for time and travel is available. For more information, call x3-3990.
