Info line connects employees with doctors

dedicated phone line has been established to help employees and their families connect with physicians who are participating in the University Medical Plans. Weekdays between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., individuals can call x5-4900 and talk with a human resources representative who will provide names, locations, and contact information for participating internists, family practitioners, ob/gyns, and pediatricians who are accepting new patients.

Staff on the Physician Info Line will regularly update the listing of physicians with open practices. Staff will make every effort to suggest doctors in the geographic location employees desire, but some practices may fill quickly. However, employees must call physicians' offices directly to be formally accepted as patients.

A preliminary directory of participating physicians was included in the information packets sent to employees' homes earlier this month. In addition, a fully updated listing of University Medical Plan physicians is available at www.rochester.edu/providers.

"If you do not find a particular doctor in these listings, I urge you to contact that doctor and encourage him or her to sign up. Aetna representatives are in regular contact with local doctors and applications are still being processed," said Chuck Murphy, associate vice president for human resources.

Employees whose physicians (or dependents' physicians) are not signed up for the plan must select another primary care provider from the panel of participating doctors on or before May 31. The new health insurance plans become effective July 1.
